Perhaps I'm not a good judge of these types of things, because admittedly, I'm a sucker for a good coming of age/coming out / first love type of story and this one is all of those things wrapped up into one delicious offering that I literally could not put down.Told from the perspective of Carrie, one of two main protagonists in this story, I was riveted from Carrie's stories of her childhood, to how their friendship turned romantic, and beyond. At times some of the banter between them would seem juvenile and I would have to remind myself where they were at their stage in life because the love, the emotion, and passion between the two of them was so mature and so intense I forgot how young they were throughout the story.
Overall I was quite impressed with this novel. Most of the time in this genre (GLBTQ, Urban, Drama) we find a lot of foul language, poor grammar, and overly sexualized plots and this book did not have any of that. Things progressed rather naturally and everything appeared to happen as it should throughout the book's entity.
I will say that at the end of the book, as I'm sure with many other readers, the climax of the story left me utterly speechless and I had a good old fashioned ugly cry as I really connected to these ladies and championed for their success. If you haven't ordered this book yet, I'm not sure what you're waiting on. JUST DO IT! You won't be disappointed.

I had read The Dance My First Love By Kristy Cato, but my girlfriend hadn’t
My girlfriend did not want to read it because our past together... My girlfriend did not want to face our past together in her book due to it had brought up a lot of our past... See I had left her around 2009 for a different girl and after being with my girl for almost 10 years at that time that I left, I did not known that she was the one for me... I only had dated this other girl for a few years but my x-girlfriend at the time we would talk to each other almost every day then with in the last year of me dating this other girl we were talking every day...So I had left that girl and stayed single for over a year but yet I would still talk to my ex. We got back together in Oct 2011 and have been living together ever since... I knew reading this book together would make her feel the past but I was hoping it would make us feel that fist love that we had for each other a very long time ago...Every day I tell her how much I love her and we are working on are relationship every day... I was a BIG ASS for leaving her and I know that was one of the “BIG Mistakes” I had ever made in my life. I need to say I truly love her and one day I hope we can find that same love again that we once share like Kim and Carrie have...

Kristy cots is an amazing writer. So yes this book is amazing to read. Its hard to put down once I started to read it. It has you thinking, wondering & even answering some of your own questions you would have in your life of loves. Its Even helpful in ways of trying to understand another, have Communications, respect, uniqueness in many ways of loving, caring, truthfulness, family Oriented, laught & live life to the fullest that you can at times when possible. To treat others the way you love to be treated & look forward to better things in life. know how & who you are for your worth & others as well. So if you can giveth in any kind of relationship from foe to lover then you know your worth & that you deserve to receiveth it as well as you should giveth. Don't take or think someone's kindness is weekness or for granted cause that's a lot of BS. Let me start by saying Kristy Cato is one of the best writer's in the world. Kristy Cato passion for writing love novels for the lesbìan community is great. When I first heard about Kristy Cato I was on fb in a group and they loved her novels and everyone should read them. I said to myself I have to get my hands on her (Kristy Cato) novels and I so happy I did. Kristy Cato has a passion for writing you can feel it in her novels some writers just put stories together not from there heart not with feeling not Kristy Cato her novels are from her heart you can feel the passion and the love she gives in each novel. Kristy Cato novel The Dance was amazing a best seller this novel mad me laugh,cry,sad and excited. It took me less than a week to read because I couldn't stop reading because her story came from her heart and touched my heart. The Dance was everything I expected and so much more. I have three of her novels I'm reading Kim's Story After The Dance now. Kristy Cato I give you 100 stars if I could but they only have five stars so you get them ALL. Thanks for giving us great novels to read keep up the GREAT work
The Dance My First Love, has left me completely speechless. Kristy Cato reaches in and grabs the heart of the reader, we all can recall the profound affect of our first love. I have read over 600 books in the past few years and I will tell you this story of Kim and Carrie has the most real and true elements of how we love. We all say "I love you, unconditionally...." In this story you will find the most honest struggles we face when we love someone more than ourself. Be ready to experience a plethora of emotions. A warm feeling of joy and happiness... You will smile and laugh with Carrie and Kim. You will also cry and feel for each of them as they struggle with the consequences of their actions. Ultimately, if you understand or desire to give and receive unconditional love you will find it here, in this wonderfully written story....
